the haunted mansion serves food

DIGESTIBLE COMMENTARY no. 3

Last night’s once monthly collaBARation night (hosted at the newly opened Crypt Pub on Broughton) was more than just a good time, cheap thrills, and a spooky, yet seemingly tacky ambiance – I actually had a stellar meal featuring Hunter Cattle’s all-natural grass fed beef as the show stopper. This farm fresh burger was topped with shaved black truffles, sauteed onions and wild mushrooms, roasted garlic aioli pea shoots, and melted swiss on homemade focaccia. The diner to my right had an equally palatable burger with truffle parmesan frites and to my left- a slab of beautiful pork belly served over stewed lentils with tomato foam. Not the kind of menu I was expecting from a restaurant guaranteed to interest tourists with it’s haunted nature. It’s definitely on my list for a second visit, I’ll just pretend Disney’s Haunted Mansion-esque hanging pictures are slightly more authentic than their actual Halloween pop-up shop theme-park appeal.
